About Us
Paradox first opened its doors in late 1993. Its original owners, including current chief Richard Early, conceived of the store name with a thesaurus and a lot of fried chicken. They talked about opening a store, but were traveling the area at local comic conventions when one fateful Saturday in Bismarck, a wonderful lady wrote a check to Paradox in the amount of $13. Taking the check was a whim, and it turned out to be the launching point for our store.
Fifteen years later, we’ve been through just about everything a comic and card shop could be. We’ve seen recessions, industry booms, market collapses, distributor wars, the rise of the internet, fierce price wars with in-town competitors, partnership changeover, weather disasters, and so much more.
There’s the old saying that goes whatever doesn’t destroy you only makes you stronger. Paradox seems to be proof of that.
Paradox is a thriving comic and game shop. We carry new comics and a huge selection of graphic novels and trade paperbacks. We offer comic subscriptions and a special bonus Reward Program to our repeat customers. We have a wide variety of children’s and all ages comics and collections. We’ve got an extensive library of independent and small press trade paperbacks and manga.
Paradox offers the areas only full time game room. We can seat over 100 players and feature smaller rooms for role playing games or other special events. We run tournaments for many games with specialty in Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, HeroClix, and Star Wars and D&D Miniatures. With Magic, we host ND State Champs, Prerelease events, and Pro Tour Qaualifiers. Yu-Gi-Oh! highlights include Regionals qualifiers. All our players have access to weekly and monthly gaming as well.
We specialize in pre-order discounts on all lines of product. Comic and game collectors find a regular schedule of upcoming products at great prices. Discounts from 25 to 40% off retail prices are normal.
